The dwarves are the lords of the Kingdom Below, but like all else they possess, it was not made by their hands. They are an ancient folk from the early days of the Second World, but they are not the originals, and were never meant to be their own creatures. For the Dawi, as they call themselves, are a mighty race created for purpose, moulded with intent. They were shaped by skill no dwarf has, and for reasons no dwarf knows: and their makers and their masters died long ago, leaving behind servants who still wear chains.
A dwarf gains the following racial features:
- Inner Iron: A dwarf has better saving throws against magical effects.
- Goal Oriented: A dwarf goes where he pleases.
- Stone Rolling Downhill: A dwarf is slower than most, but is harder to slow as well.
- Born of the Deeper Dark: A dwarf can see in the dark and detect stone features easily.
- Will of the Dawi: A dwarf must prove he is not stone, or by inaction prove that he is.
- Mood of Making: A dwarf has a bonus to Craft and might suddenly be overcome with the urge to Make a magical item, or maybe just a bench.
In addition, choose two of the following traits.
- Rock Solid: Once per day, a dwarf with this trait gains an enormous bonus to Fortitude and Will.
- Skin Like Stone: The first few strikes in combat against a dwarf with this trait deal enormously reduced damage.
- Clay of the Forge-God: A dwarf with this trait has a floating bonus to saving throws against effects he has experienced before.
- Stubborn as a Mountain: A dwarf with this trait is much harder to frighten into submission and is difficult to brainwash.
