Khaz-Maghek

A living dwarfhold in the mountains southeast of Terrefroid — which Men call the Sallen Breach, and the Dawi, Khaz-Maghek: Maghek Hold. Not a pass so much as a passage, bored clean through the range, with roads out to Vauclerc and away to the south.

It is open to Men, but only to true travellers: no army sets foot in Khaz-Maghek, and merchants pay a toll steep enough that many would rather chance the wilder passes than meet it. Those who try to cheat the dwarves — withholding the fee, or swindling a dwarven buyer on the way through — learn, quickly and once, that this is unwise. Whatever emptied the hold at Vivier Peak, it never touched Khaz-Maghek; the Dawi here are very much at home.
