Wolves are pack predators that menace livestock and take isolated prey. Individually they are much less dangerous than boars or bears, readily killed by rams and bulls, and not brave enough to attack Men or elves or pigmen; but in numbers they coordinate well, and a pack hunting together is a serious threat. They are a menace to livestock more than they are a menace to individuals, and will opportunistically raid sheep flocks, but lone children can sometimes be taken by them.

Wolves are clever, and a hunter who underestimates them does so once. It is possible to form a working relationship with them in times of plenty; however, despite their resemblance to large dogs, wolves are not as loyal nor as tractable as hounds, and during lean times wolves will turn on the populace in a way unlike hounds. Wolf pelts are not as prized as the pelts of some other wildlife and their meat not as palatable as the meat of bear or swine, but since they must be hunted regardless many villages still produce small amounts of both.
